MAID OF THE LOCH

Launched in Coronation Year 1953 for service on Loch Lomond, the largest lake in Britain, Maid of the Loch is:-a) the last paddle steamer built in Britain.
b) the largest inland waterway passenger vessel built in Britain.
c) a direct descendant of the first loch paddle steamer of 1818.Withdrawn from service in 1981, and vandalised thereafter, the Maid was rescued from dereliction in 1992 and as the first stage in restoring her to service is now open to the public in a static role.

Built in1953 by A & J Inglis, Pointhouse, Glasgow.
Pre-erected in the shipyard, taken apart, transported to Loch Lomond
by rail, re-erected on Balloch Slipway, launched 5th. March 1953.
Entered service 25th May 1953, last day in service 30th August 1981.

Registered Dimensions, 58.21m x 8.56m x 2.13m. 555.37 Gross tons.

Original Passenger Certificate for 1000 persons.

Main Engine, Compound Diagonal, 24″ & 48″ x 51″, about 900 I.H.P.
